Objective To investigate the clinical efficacy of double plates fixation via combined medial and lateral ap-proaches in treatment of type C distal humerus fractures. Methods The 25 patients with type C distal humeral frac-tures were treated with double plates fixation via combined medial and lateral approaches. The intraoperative bleeding volume, surgical time, fracture healing time, and incidence conditions of complications were recorded.Mayo score was used to evaluate elbow joint function. Results All patients were followed up for 15~24 months. The intraoperative bleeding volume was 100~240(156.0±34.6)ml,and the surgical time was 90~150(115.6±18.3)min.The in-cisions were all healed in one-stage.There were no postoperative complications such as incision infection, loosening or broken of the internal fixation, nonunion,or ectopic ossification. All fractures healed, with a duration of 2.5~3.5(3.1±0.3)months.At the last follow-up,the excellent-good rate of elbow joint function evaluated by Mayo score was 22/25.Conclusions The double plates fixation via combined medial and lateral approaches are used to treat type C distal humerus fractures, which not only have the advantages of sufficient surgical field, better exposure of the anterior joint surface, and not damaging the posterior elbow extension structure, but also makes the distal internal and external column and intercondyle fracture block have sufficient mechanical stability, combining active functional exercise of the patients, the clinical effect is satisfactory.
