Clinical outcomes and impact on pain and spinal function in patients with single segment lumbar disc herniation undergoing percutane-ous endoscopic interlaminar discectomy
Objective To investigate the clinical outcomes and impact on pain and spinal function in patients with single segment lumbar disc herniation undergoing percutaneous endoscopic interlaminar discectomy(PEID).Methods A total of 96 patients with single segment lumbar disc herniation admitted to Dongguan Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital from March 2021 to March 2023 were prospectively selected as the study subjects.According to the random number table method, patients were divided into two groups:the traditional surgery group(n=48)and the PEID group(n=48).The traditional surgical group received traditional surgical treatment, while the PEID group received PEID surgery. The therapeutic efficacy after surgery, pain score[visual analog scale(VAS)],Oswsetry dysfunction index(ODI),lumbar range of motion score[Japanese Orthopedic Association(JO A)score]before surgery and after 6 months of surgery, and postoperative complications of the patients were compared. Results The total effective rate of the PEID group was 95.83%,which was higher than that of the traditional surgery group(81.25%),and the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05).After 6 months of surgery, the VAS and ODI scores of two groups were lower than those before surgery, and the JOA scores were higher than those before surgery, the VAS and ODI scores of the PEID group at 6 months after sur-gery were(1.98±0.46)and(12.46±1.62)points,respectively,which were lower than those of the traditional surgery group[(2.53±0.65)and(18.12±2.13)points],the JOA score were(19.67±2.98)points,which was higher than that of the traditional surgery group[(15.12±1.73)points],and the differences were statistically significant(P<0.05).There was no obvious difference in the total incidence of complica-tions between the traditional surgical group and the PEID group(12.50%vs.4.17%)(P>0.05).Conclusion PEID surgery has a good ther-apeutic efficacy on patients with single segment lumbar disc herniation, reduces pain, improves spinal function, and has fewer complications.
