Progress in the Depolymerization of Lignin Catalyzed by Metal-organic Frameworks to Produce Phenolic Monomers and Their Derivatives
Lignin, the only renewable resource in the world, can produce aromatic compounds.Metal-organic frameworks(MOFs)have the advantages of flexible functionalization of metals nodes, organic ligands and pore structures. The efficient depolymerization of lignin catalyzed by MOFs to prepare high-value added phenolic monomers and their derivatives is one of the most promising approaches for the resource utilization of lignin. This paper introduced the types and structural characteristics of lignin,as well as the structure and synthesis strategies of MOFs.Moreover, taking phenolic monomers and their derivatives as the target products, the latest research progress in lignin depolymerization to produce phenolic monomers and their derivatives cycloalkanes, and cyclohexanols were emphatically introduced. In addition, the mechanisms of chemical bonds cleavage and functional groups hydrodeoxygenation by lignin depolymerization were summarized. Finally, the existing problems of MOFs catalyzing lignin depolymerization at present were summarized, and possible future development directions were proposed.
