The effect of positive rumination training on emotion regulation strategies in adolescents with depression with non-suicidal self-injury behavior
Objective:This study aims to investigate the effectiveness of active rumination training on non-suicidal self-injury(NSSI)behavior and emotion regulation strategies in adolescents with depression.Method:167 adolescent depressed patients from the Brain Hospital Affiliated to Nanjing Medical University from March 2021 to June 2022 with non-suicidal NSSI behaviors were divided into the control group(n =84)and the experimental group(n = 83)according to random numbers. Both groups received routine psychiatric treatment and nursing, and the observation group were given extra active rumination thinking training. The data were analyzed by SPSS 22.0,t test to compare the difference and calculate the effect size of Cohen's D value. Results:After the intervention, the scores of positive rumination, emotional expression, negative reinforce-ment,expression suppression strategy, and cognitive reevaluation strategy were significantly different from the control group(P<0.05 or P<0.01),Cohen's D values of emotional expression, negative reinforcement, and cognitive reevaluation strategy reached a moderate effect(0.5≤D≤0.8).Three months after the intervention, the experimental group and the control group(P<0.05 or P<0.01).Both the Cohen's D values were in-creased,The component of cognitive reevaluation strategy expressed a large effect(D>0.8),the scores of active rumination, emotional expression,self-interested social interaction,self-negative reinforcement, and expression suppression strategy achieved medium effects(0.5≤D≤0.8).The effect was smaller in the negative remination subscale(0.2≤D≤0.5).Conclusion:Active rumination training is beneficial to improve emotion regulation strategies and reduce non-suicidal behavior in adolescent depression, and the effects gradually increase over time.
