Stigma and related factors in patients with mental disorders in rural areas
Objective:To explore the stigma and related factors of patients with mental disorders in rural areas.Method:454 patients with mental disorders were selected in rural areas,using a multilevel sampling method,including 364 patients with schizophrenia,51 patients with bipolar disorder,and 39 patients with depres-sion.Describe the stigma score of patients with different disease diagnoses.Single factor analysis and multivari-ate analysis were used to evaluate stigma in these patients.Results:The score of stigma for all investigated patients with mental disorders was(77.25±13.56),with 253 people in the high stigma group and 201 people in the low stigma group.The scores of schizophrenia patients were higher than those of depression patients,while the scores of depression patients were higher than those of bipolar disorder patients(P<0.05).The results of univariate analysis showed that there were statistically significant differences in data on disease diagnosis,family income level,work ability,social support scores,and social function scores among patients with different levels of stigma(P<0.05).The results of multivariate analysis showed that the patient's disease diagnosis,family in-come level,work ability,social support score,and social function score were multivariate analyses of the stigma of patients with mental disorders in rural areas(P<0.05).Conclusion:Patients with mental disorders in ru-ral areas have a certain level of stigma,and many factors are related to the level of stigma of such patients.R
