Physical and mental health status and related psycho-social factors among caregivers of depressed chil-dren and adolescents
Objective:To understand the physical and mental health status and related psycho-social fac-tors of caregivers of children and adolescents with depression.Method:113 caregivers of children and ado-lescents with depression were recruited,Physical and mental health was assessed using the Beck Depression In-ventory-II,State-Trait Anxiety Inventory,the Short Form 36 Health Survey Questionnaire,the Trait Coping Style Questionnaire,and Perceived Social Support Scale.Correlation analysis and linear regression were performed.Results:Caregiver depression rates are high and anxiety scores were higher than the national norm(all P<0.05).Family support,friend support,other support,and positive coping were all significantly negatively corre-lated with depression and anxiety scores and significantly positively correlated with health status(all P<0.05).Negative coping was significantly positively associated with anxiety and depression scores and negatively associated with health status(all P<0.05).Positive coping and friend support significantly predicted depres-sion and anxiety scores negatively and health status positively(all P<0.01).Negative coping significantly pre-dicted depression and anxiety scores positively and health status negatively(all P<0.01).Conclusion:Car-egivers of depressed children and adolescents have high levels of depression and anxiety.Positive coping and friend support helped to alleviate depression and anxiety.
