Advances in the study of glutamic acid decarboxylase 1 in psychiatric disorders
Glutamic acid decarboxylase(GAD)is a synthetic enzyme of γ-aminobutyric acid(GABA),which is mainly found in the brain and pancreatic islets, and its aberrant expression has been associated with a variety of diseases, and several studies have shown that its synthetic enzyme,GAD1,may be involved in the pathogenesis of psychiatric disorders. The new developments in the study of GAD1 and its possible pathogenic mechanisms are summarized here.
