The relationship between catastrophic belief, absolute belief and symptoms in patients with generalized anxiety disorder
Objective:To explore the relationship between catastrophic belief, absolute belief, intolerance of uncertainty, coping style and anxiety symptoms in patients with generalized anxiety disorder.Method:177 patients with generalized anxiety disorder in medical psychology department of the Affiliated Brain Hospital of Nanjing Medical University from March to December 2022 were evaluated by Hamilton anxiety scale, the catastrophic belief scale, the demanding belief scale, intolerance of uncertainty scale and simplified coping style questionnaire.Psychological network model is constructed and mediation analysis is further carried out. Results:The absolutization of self-orientation has the strongest centrality in the network(expected influence=1.72),followed by the catastrotization of the evaluation of others(expected influence=1.02),and they are most closely related at the cognitive level(edge weight=0.26).Intolerance of uncertainty played a partial mediating role in catastrophic belief and anxiety symptoms, and the mediating effect accounted for 45.80%of the total effect. Conclusion:The absolutization of self-orientation and the catastrotization of the evaluation of others have core characteristics in the network, and catastrophic belief affects the anxiety symptoms of individuals through intolerance of uncertainty.
