Reliability and validity of Zung self-rating anxiety scale among community residents
Objective:To test the reliability and validity of the Chinese version of the Zung self-rating anxiety scale(SAS)among community residents.Method:Residents from Tianjin(n=664)and Shanghai(n=257)accepted the assessment of the self-developed scale of demographics, the Chinese version of SAS,and a 36-item short form health survey, and 94 respondents were retested after an average of one week. Results:The internal consistency of Cronbach's α of the scale in the sample was 0.733 and ranged from 0.622 to 0.838 in subgroups of various demographics;the exploratory factor analysis identified 4 factors, which explained 55.25%of the total variance;confirmatory factor analysis fit index showed that:comparative fit index=0.99,Tucker-Lewis index=0.99,root mean square error of approximation=0.03,x2/df=2.37;The test-retest reliability for the total score in the entire sample was 0.62.Four factors of test-retest reliability were 0.41,0.57,0.69,and 0.65;SAS total scores were significantly negatively correlated with two components of the SF-36.Conclusion:The Chinese version of SAS has good reliability and validity among by community residents, and can be used as an effective assessment tool for adults anxiety screening.
