Correlation between location and severity of cobra bite
Objective:To investigate whether the severity of cobra bite correlates with wound location,in or-der to provide reference for the clinical prevention and treatment of cobra bite. Methods:The study included pa-tients with cobra-bite who were admitted to seven tertiary hospitals between January 1,2017,and December 12,2021.Data collected were location of cobra bite, markers of severity and antivenom etc.The location of cobra bite was analyzed in correlation with severity. Results:We included 899 cobra bite patients including 777 males(86.43%)and 122 females(13.57%),age(51.21±15.94)years.It was the highest incidence of cobra-bite from April to September(736 cases,81.87%),12 to18 o'clock(413 cases,45.05%).Mild,moderate and severe pa-tients respectively were 768 cases(85.43%),123 cases(13.68%)and 8 cases(0.89%).Lower limb bites were more likely to be severe than upper limb bites(3.05%vs.0.28%,P=0.005),and different limb wound loca-tions of cobra bite were related to the severity of cobra bite(P=0.001 338,r=0.122).It resulted longer hospi-talization in patients of lower limb bites than upper limb bites,(5.55±7.35)days vs.(4.23±5.61)days,P=0.032.Conclusion:The different wound locations of cobra-bite correlated with the severity, the lower limb cobra bites more likely to develop moderate and severe.
