Glioma is a primary malignant tumor of central nervous system with very low survival rate.Immunotherapies such as immune checkpoint inhibitor(ICI),which have been newly developed in recent years, are expected to improve the treatment and prognosis of glioma. However,ICI treatment is still in its infancy due to a variety of factors such as blood-brain barrier blocking immune cells and glioma inherent immunosuppression. The combined treatment of radiotherapy and ICI have the potential to break the limitation.ICI can cooperate radiotherapy to amplify the systemic anti-tumor immune response, such as the distant effect. This review explains how radiation therapy, through its immunomodulatory effects, exhibits synergistic effects with ICI on tumors. The clinical research progress and possible development direction of combination therapy in glioma are also listed.
