Effect of holistic intervention model on PICC-related complications and negative emotions in ovarian cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy
Objective To explore the effect of holistic intervention model(HIM)on peripherally inserted central catheter(PICC)-related complications and negative emotions in ovarian cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy. Methods Ninety-six ovarian cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy were divided into control(receiving routine PICC maintenance)and research(doing the HIM)group according to different intervention protocols, with 48 ones in each. The intervention lasted for 1 month.Such indexes were compared between two groups as pre-and post-intervention scores on the Positive and Negative Affect Schedule(PANAS),General Self-Efficacy Scale(GSES),and European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer Quality of Life Questionnaire Core-30(EORTC QLQ-C30),patients'satisfaction and occurrences of PICC-related complications of both groups counted. Results After intervention, the positive emotions scores of the PANAS and scores on the GSES elevated and negative emotions decreased in both groups compared with pre-intervention,and research group was better than controls(P<0.01).After intervention, scores on function and generic quality of life of the EORTC QLQ-C30 elevated and those on symptoms and on monomial dimensions excepting'financial difficulty'lowered in research group compared with pre-intervention,and research group was better than controls(P<0.05 or 0.01).Global satisfaction was higher and the incidence of PICC-related complications lower in research than control group(P<0.05).Conclusion The HIM can effectively improve the negative emotions of ovarian cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy with PICC indwelling, lower the risk of PICC-related complications, and deserves clinical promotion.
