Objective To investigate the effects of erbium laser therapy and traditional methods on pain, comfort and pain mediators in patients with jaw cyst. Methods A total of 300 patients with jaw cyst treated from October 2018 to October 2022 were selected and divided into erbium laser group(n =150)and traditional group(n =150)according to the surgical plan. The perioperative situation, pain mediators and number of oral microbiota before and after treatment, comfort level, clinical efficacy and complications after operation of the two groups were analyzed. Results The pain degree of erbium laser group at 24 h after operation was better than that of traditional group, the amount of intraoperative blood loss was less than that of traditional group, and the comfort level was better than that of traditional group(P<0.01).Serum levels of substance P,prostaglandin E2 and neuropeptide Y in erbium laser group at 12 h after operation were lower than those in traditional group(P<0.05).At 3 months and 6 months after operation, the number of bifidobacterium colonies in erbium laser group was higher than that in traditional group, and the number of actinobacterium and porphyrin gingival monocellular bacteria colonies was lower than that in traditional group(P<0.05).There was no significant difference in the total effective rate and postoper-ative complications between the two groups at 6 months after surgery(P>0.05).Conclusion Erbium laser and traditional methods have comparable results in the treatment of patients with jaw cyst.Erbium laser treatment reduces the amount of intra-operative blood loss in patients, relieves the pain degree, maintains balance of oral microbiota, improves comfort, and has fe-wer impacts on the pain mediators.
