Objective To analyze the causes and preventive measures of misdiagnosis of papillary thyroid carcinoma(PTC)in males. Methods The clinical data of 2 male patients with misdiagnosed PTC admitted from February 2018 to March 2022 were retrospectively analyzed. Results Two patients presented with cervical mass, and cystic lymphangioma and branchial cleft cyst were considered by color Doppler ultrasonography and CT.PTC was confirmed in 2 patients by surgical and pathologic examination,1 of which was accompanied by cervical lymph node metastasis. The duration of misdiagnosis was 22 d and 14 d respectively.Total thyroidectomy and cervical lymph node dissection were performed in 2 patients after diagnosis. The prognosis was good at 6 months and 1 year after follow-up respectively. No recurrence was observed. Conclusion The clinical manifestations of PTC in males are non-specific.It is necessary to strengthen the understanding of PTC,enhance vigi-lance,carefully perform physical examination and differentiate diagnosis, and perform timely thyroid ultrasound,CT and even pathological examination,to improve the preoperative diagnosis rate of this disease.
