Objective To explore the appearance anxiety in patients after oral cancer surgery and its relationship with fear of negative evaluation(FNE)and coping modes. Methods A total of 84 patients with oral cancer admitted between January 2021 and August 2023 were enrolled. The appearance anxiety,FNE and coping modes were evaluated by Appearance Anxiety scale-brief version(AAS-BV),Brief fear of negative evaluation scale(BFNES)and the medical coping modes question-naire(MCMQ),respectively.The correlation of appearance anxiety with FNE and coping modes was analyzed by Pearson cor-relation analysis, and the effects of FNE and coping modes on appearance anxiety were analyzed by multiple linear regression analysis. Results The gender and age of patients were correlated with appearance anxiety after oral cancer surgery(P<0.05),while marital status, education level, cancer staging, pathological types and religious beliefs were not correlated with appear-ance anxiety(P>0.05).The scores of AAS-BV,BFNES and facing dimension, avoidance dimension and yielding dimension in MCMQ were(61.25±5.23)points,(30.95±3.49)points,(28.25±2.18)points,(12.57±2.01)points and(10.14±1.57)points,respectively.Pearson correlation analysis showed that appearance anxiety was positively correlated with FNE,avoidance and yielding modes after oral cancer surgery(r=0.290,0.344,0.415,P<0.01),but negatively correlated with facing mode(r=-0.324,P<0.01).Multiple linear stepwise regression analysis showed that FNE,avoidance and yielding modes were of positively pre-dictive effect on appearance anxiety, while facing style was of negatively predictive effect(P<0.05).Conclusion Postoperative patients with oral cancer have a higher degree of appearance anxiety, which is positively correlated with FNE,avoidance and yielding modes, but negatively correlated with facing mode in patients after oral cancer surgery.FNE,avoidance and yielding modes have positively predictive effect on appearance anxiety, while facing mode has negatively predictive effect.
