Objective To investigate the effect of Holmium laser enucleation of the prostate(HoLEP)on benign pros-tatic hyperplasia(BPH)and its effect on postoperative recovery, quality of life and sexual function. Methods A total of 340 patients with BPH treated from January 2021 to February 2024 were selected and divided into research group(n=172)and control group(n=168)according to different treatment methods. The research group was treated with HoLEP and the control group was treated with plasma kinetic enucleation of the prostate(PKEP).The clinical efficacy, postoperative recovery[postop-erative hemoglobin decline, length of hospital stay, bladder irrigation time, catheter retention time, maximum urinary flow rate(Qmax),International Prostatic symptom score(IPSS)and bladder residual urine volume],quality of life[The MOS 36-Item Short-Form Health Survey(SF-36)]and sexual function were compared between the two groups. Results The total effective rate of the research group[99.42%(171/172)]was higher than that of the control group[95.83(161/168)](P<0.05).The postoperative hemoglobin decline and bladder residual urine volume in the research group were lower than those in the control group, the length of hospital stay, postoperative bladder irrigation time and catheter retention time were shorter than those in the control group, the IPSS was lower than that in the control group, and the Qmax was higher than that in the control group(P<0.01).After surgery, the SF-36 scores of physiological function, physical pain and energy in the research group were higher than those in the control group(P<0.01).There was no significant difference in the complications between the two groups at 4 months af-ter surgery(P>0.05).There was no significant intragroup and intergroup difference in sexual function at 4 months after sur-gery(P>0.05).Conclusion HoLEP has good clinical effect in the treatment of BPH,which can improve postoperative he-moglobin and other indexes, improve quality of life, and reduce the risk of complications without affecting sexual function.
