Objective To explore the effect and safety of six-channel acupuncture combined with Western medicine in the treatment of elderly patients with knee osteoarthritis(KOA).Methods In total,106 patients with KOA treated from March 2023 to March 2024 were selected and divided into observation group(n=53)and control group(n=53)by random number table method. The control group was treated with conventional Western medicine, and the observation group was trea-ted with six-channel acupuncture assisted with conventional Western medicine. The clinical efficacy, adverse reactions,tradi-tional Chinese medicine(TCM)syndrome scores, joint function, quality of life, gait parameters, coagulation function and se-rum inflammatory factors were compared between the two groups. Results The total effective rate of the observation group[94.34%(50/53)]was higher than that of the control group[79.25%(42/53)],while the TCM syndrome score was low-er than that of the control group(P<0.05).After treatment, the improvement of joint function, gait parameters and quality of life score in observation group was better than that in control group, activated partial thromboplatin time, thrombin time and prothrombin time were higher than those in the control group, and the levels of fibrinogen,C reactive protein,interleukin-1β,interleukin-6 and tumor necrosis factor-α were lower than those in control group(P<0.05,P<0.01).There were no obvi-ous adverse reactions in both groups. Conclusion Six-channel acupuncture assisted with Western medicine is effective in the treatment of KOA in the elderly, with good safety.
