Cardiac troponin(cTn)is a specific biomarker present within myocardial cells. When the myocar-dium undergoes reversible or irreversible damage,cTn is released into circulation. While elevated levels of cTn are commonly associated with cardiac diseases, they can also be observed in patients with non-cardiac conditions. To accurately comprehend the significance of cTn elevation, our review explores the mechanisms and clinical implica-tions of elevated cTn in non-cardiac diseases, building upon the introduction of the origin, release mechanisms, and clearance pathways.
