Vitamin D plays a beneficial role in regulating human bone metabolism and slowing the progres-sion of cerebral small vessel disease.High serum cholesterol levels have been shown to drive atherosclerotic plaque formation and promote inflammatory progression at sites of vascular endothelial injury.Vitamin D has been found to negatively regulate cholesterol metabolism and smooth muscle cell proliferation, ultimately inhibiting athero-sclerosis.Vitamin D also plays a synergistic role in the process of serum cholesterol reduction by statins, and can reduce the side effects associated with lipid-lowering drugs. In this paper,we review the role and relationship be-tween Vitamin D and cholesterol metabolism in cardiovascular diseases such as atherosclerosis, and provide new ideas for the latest researches of therapeutic drugs that are beneficial to cardiovascular health.
