Study on the correlation between vitamin C and diabetic retinopathy
Diabetic retinopathy(DR)is a blinding eye disease that has become a serious public health burden worldwide. However, the pathogenesis of DR Is not completely clear, and prevention is more important than treatment. Therefore, the use of various effective methods before the onset of DR In diabetic patients may have a positive effect on de-laying the development of DR.Oxidative stress is involved in the pathogenesis of DR,and vitamin C,also known as Ascor-bic acid(AA),is a commonly used clinical antioxidant. It can play an antioxidant role by alleviating the oxidative stress of ascorbate peroxidase sch.AA is also required to participate in many important biosynthesis processes.Serum AA levels are low in diabetic patients.AA supplementation may delay the development of DR Through its antioxidant effect. This paper reviews the relationship and mechanism between AA and DR.
