Advancements in the application of cyclosporine a for dry eye treatment
Dry eye syndrome,a prevalent ocular surface disorder, has remained a focal point of clinical research for many years.Recent studies suggest that disruptions in the protective immune regulation mechanism of the ocular sur-face and inflammatory responses play pivotal roles in its onset and progression. This inflammation and dry eye condition re-ciprocally exacerbate each other, resulting in a vicious cycle.Beyond the standard treatments of artificial tears and meibo-mian gland massage,anti-inflammatory therapy is emerging as a novel trend to break this malign cycle.Conventional anti-inflammatory drugs, including steroids and non-steroidal medications, have long-term deleterious effects on the ocular sur-face.In contrast, cyclosporine A,as an immunosuppressive agent, has demonstrated considerable superiority in dry eye clinical research over decades. This article offers a comprehensive review of the mechanistic role and clinical research ad-vancements of cyclosporine A eye drops in treating dry eye syndrome.
