Observation of the therapeutic efficacy of RS tube placement for the treatment of old canalicular laceration
Objective To analyze the efficacy of RS tube placement in the treatment of old canalicular laceration and explore its unique characteristics and advantages compared to other methods. Methods A retrospective analysis was conducted on the clinical data of 24 cases of old canalicular laceration treated with RS tube placement in our hospital be-tween January 2019 and June 2023.Among them, there were 19 males and 5 females, with an average age of 51 years. All patients were followed up postoperatively, with a follow-up period ranging from 6 months to 2 years. The surgical outcomes were evaluated from both objective and subjective aspects. Objective indicators included whether the lacrimal duct irriga-tion was normally unobstructed and without reflux, and whether there were any structural abnormalities in the eyelids,lac-rimal puncta, and inner canthus as observed by slit lamp examination.Subjective indicators included whether the patients experienced tearing discomfort and their satisfaction with the postoperative appearance. Results RS tubes were success-fully placed in 24 eyes without any significant intraoperative or postoperative complications.During the follow-up period, lacrimal duct irrigation was unobstructed in 23 cases, and 22 cases had no complaints of tearing and were satisfied with the postoperative appearance. Conclusions RS tube placement for the treatment of old canalicular laceration is a safe and ef-fective method.Compared to other surgical techniques,RS tube placement offers advantages such as not requiring nasal fixation or removal, shorter surgical time, easier insertion into the lacrimal system, and a higher success rate.
