Analysis of visual acuity screening results of preschool children in Xinwu district of Wuxi city
Objective To analyze the results of visual acuity screening for preschool children in Xinwu district of Wuxi city, and provide data support for establishing vision health records for preschool children. Methods A total of 14 686 preschool children from kindergartens in Xinwu district of Wuxi city from June 2021 to January 2022 were selected as the research objects.Refractive examination and visual acuity examination were performed on all children. The refraction, visual acuity and eye related conditions of children of different ages and genders were analyzed. Results Refraction and visual acuity tests were performed on preschool children of all ages, and a total of 3 336 children were found to have refractive abnormalities.Among them, the proportion of refractive abnormalities in children aged 5 and 6 was relatively high, and the proportion of poor vision in children aged 3 was the lowest. There were statistically significant differences in the proportions of myopia, hyperopia, astigmatism, refractive abnormality and poor vision among preschool children of different ages(P<0.05).There were no significant differences in the proportions of myopia and hyperopia between girls and boys(P>0.05);there were statistically significant differences in the proportions of astigmatism and poor vision between girls and boys(P<0.05).The incidence of eye appearance, visual behavior, red light reflex and abnormal eye movement in preschool children of all ages was low. There were no significant differences in the proportions of eye appearance, visual behavior, red light reflex, eye position screening and abnormal eye movement among preschool children of different ages(P>0.05).There were no significant differences in the proportion of eye appearance, visual behavior, red light reflex, eye position screening and abnormal eye movement between girls and boys(P>0.05).Among the 6 year old children with poor vision,up to 41.81%of the children had refractive abnormalities;among the 4 year old children with poor vision, only 28.00%of them had refractive abnormalities;among 5 year old children with ametropia,up to 63.22%of them had poor vision. There was a statistically significant difference in the proportion of refractive abnormalities in children with poor vision at different ages(P<0.05);there was a statistically significant difference in the proportion of poor vision among children with refractive abnormalities at different ages(P<0.05).Conclusion The implementation of visual acuity screening for preschool children helps to detect visual abnormalities early,so that early detection, early diagnosis and early treatment can effectively improve the visual development level of preschool children.
