Molar-incisor malformation(MIM)is a newly described tooth development abnormality that mainly affects the first permanent molar,maxillary permanent central incisor and second deciduous molar.It is characterized by normal molar crown,significantly narrowed crown neck,flattened pulp cavity,short,thin or even missing roots,and wedge-shaped defect in cervical 1/3 of the crown of the maxillary permanent incisor.The etiology of MIM is still unknown,which may be related to the systemic condition of the patient in two years before birth.Different treatment methods of MIM should be selected according to the severity of dental lesions and the patients'oral condition.This article reviews the etiology,clinical manifestations,diagnosis,physicochemical properties,histological characteristics and treatment of MIM.
