Research progress on the correlation between bone loss and vascular calcification
Bone loss and vascular calcification often co-exist in the elderly, diabetic and chronic renal failure patients.More and more evidence shows that vascular calcification and bone loss may have a common pathophysiological mechanism, and there is a high clinical correlation between vascular calcification and bone metabolism.Vascular calcification is a process of calcium and phosphate deposition.Vascular smooth muscle cell(VSMC)lose contractile phenotype under the action of various physical and chemical factors, and eventually completely transform into osteoblasts.Serum parathyroid hormone(PTH),phosphorus, vitamin K and matrix Gla protein(MGP)interact with the RANK/RANKUOPG system and the Wnt/β-catenin pathway. The relationship between vascular calcification and bone loss is complex, involving a variety of pathways, factors, internal environment and local microenvironment changes. The study of its mechanism of action will be conducive to the early diagnosis and treatment of vascular calcification.Based on this, this paper reviews the relationship between vascular calcification and bone loss, and deeply understands its pathophysiological mechanism.
