Study on the correlation between interleukin-6 and schizophrenia
Objective To explore the correlation between interleukin-6(IL-6)and schizophrenia. Methods A total of 113 patients with schizophrenia(case group)who were hospitalized in the Nanning Fifth People's Hospital from August 2019 to July 2020 and 110 hospital employees(control group)who underwent physical examination in our hospital during the same period were selected as the research objects. The IL-6 level and IL-6 gene polymorphism of the objects were detected;the correlation between IL-6 and schizophrenia was analyzed. Results The level of IL-6 in the case group was higher than that in the control group, and the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05).There was no significant difference in IL-6 level among patients with schizophrenia of different gender, education level, marital status and disease classification(P>0.05).One case of CG genotype was detected in rs1800795 locus of schizophrenia patients, and the others were GG genotype.CC,CG and GG genotypes were detected at rs1800796 locus. There was a statistically significant difference in the distribution frequency of GG genotype of IL-6 gene rs1800796 between the two groups(P<0.05);there was no significant difference in the distribution frequency of C and G allele between the two groups(P>0.05).There were statistically significant differences in IL-6 levels of CC,CG,GG genotypes and C,G alleles in schizophrenic patients(P<0.05).Conclusion Serum IL-6 level may be associated with schizophrenia, and the G allele of IL-6 rs1800796 gene may be associated with the occurrence of schizophrenia.
