A new formula for predicting standard liver and spleen volume in healthy adults
Objective In order to solve the problem of time-consuming and laborious measurement of liver and spleen volume,a formula for calculating the volume of liver and spleen in healthy adults is established to provide theoretical support for the application in patients with cirrhosis. Methods The liver and spleen volume of 305 healthy adults who met the inclusion and exclusion criteria were calculated by CT examination.Their gender, age, body height(BH),body weight(BW),body surface area(BSA)and body mass index(BMI)were recorded.Pearson correlation analysis and stepwise multiple linear regression analysis were performed to analyze the correlation between each parameter and liver and spleen volume, and to establish a formula for calculating liver and spleen volume. Finally, the results of the established liver volume calculation formula was compared with the existing formula. Results The liver volume calculated by CT(CTLV)and spleen volume calculated by CT(CTSV)were(1 043.18±244.60)cm3 and(175.07±88.15)cm3,respectively.The age,BH,BW,BSA and BMI were significantly correlated with CTLV and CTSV(P<0.01).BSA had the strongest correlation with CTLV and CTSV(P<0.001).Based on these results,a new formula for calculating the standard liver and spleen volume was established. Conclusion Comparing the established liver volume formula with the existing formula,it is found that the established liver volume calculation formula has higher accuracy and lower error, and the accuracy of the spleen volume calculation formula is better.
