Comparison of length of stay of schizophrenia patients in psychiatric open ward and closed ward
Objective To compare the length of stay(LOS)of schizophrenia(Sc)patients in psychiatric open ward and closed ward.Methods Sc patients who were hospitalized in the open psychiatric ward of the First Affiliated Hospital of Xi'an Jiaotong University and the closed psychiatric ward of Xianyang Central Hospital from January to December 2016 were selected as the research objects.The general data,clinical characteristics and LOS of patients in open ward and closed ward were collected and compared.Results A total of 454 Sc patients were collected,including 310 cases in the open ward and 144 cases in the closed ward.There were significant differences in gender,age,occupation,living condition before admission and voluntary admission of patients between open ward and closed ward(P<0.05).The LOS of patients in open ward was significantly shorter than that in the closed ward,and the difference was statistically significant(P<0.01);the LOS of patients with different genders,ages,occupations,living conditions before admission and voluntary admission in the open ward were shorter than those in the closed ward,and the differences were statistically significant(P<0.01).Conclusion There are some differences in the general data and clinical characteristics of Sc patients in open ward and closed ward.The LOS of Sc patients in open ward is shorter,the bed turnover rate is higher,and the utilization rate of mental health resources is higher.
