The relationship between serum TLR4 expression level and glucose and lipid metabolism in patients with polycystic ovary syndrome
Objective To investigate the correlation between serum Toll-like receptor 4(TLR4)expression level and glucose and lipid metabolism in patients with polycystic ovary syndrome(PCOS).Methods A total of 135 PCOS patients who were treated in our hospital were selected as observation group, and 66 volunteers who underwent physical examination in the gynecological clinic of our hospital and had normal examinations were selected as control group. The glucose and lipid metabolism indexes, oxidative stress indexes and TLR4 levels were compared between the two groups.Pearson correlation coefficient method was used to analyze the correlation between serum TLR4 and glucose and lipid metabolism and oxidative stress indexes in the observation group. The receiver operating characteristic(ROC)curve was used to analyse the diagnostic efficacy of serum TLR4 for PCOS.Results The levels of fasting plasma glucose(PFG),fasting insulin(FINS),triglyceride(TG),low-density lipoprotein cholesterol(LDL-C),malondialdehyde(MDA)and TLR4 in the observation group were significantly higher than those in the control group, and the total antioxidant activity(TAA)level was lower than that of the control group(P<0.05).Pearson correlation analysis showed that serum TLR4 in the observation group was positively correlated with FPG,FINS,TG,LDL-C and MDA,and negatively correlated with TAA(P<0.05).ROC curve analysis showed that serum TLR4>0.86 ng/mL had a certain diagnostic value for PCOS[area under curve(AUC)=0.836,95%CI:0.777-0.895],the diagnostic sensitivity was 88.15%,and the specificity was 65.15%.Conclusion TLR4 is abnormally elevated in PCOS patients, and its level is related to glucose and lipid metabolism and oxidative stress, and has certain diagnostic value for PCOS.
