Effects of total thyroidectomy on postoperative complications and recurrence rate in patients with thyroid cancer
Objective To analyze the effects of total thyroidectomy on postoperative complications and recurrence rate in patients with thyroid cancer. Methods A total of 70 patients with thyroid cancer admitted in our hospital from January 2020 to November 2022 were included in this study. All patients were treated with total thyroidectomy. The surgical efficacy, surgical indicators, postoperative complications, recurrence rate, thyroid function indicators and biochemical indicators of the patients were counted. Results The total effective rate was 97.14%(68/70).The average operation time, intraoperative blood loss and hospitalization time of the patients were(91.01±10.12)min,(235.24±32.17)mL and(17.14±2.42)d,respectively.The total incidence of complications was 7.14%.The recurrence rate within 1 year was 1.43%(1/70).After operation, the levels of thyroid-stimulating hormone(TSH),triiodothyronine(T3),tetraiodothyronine(T4),thyroid peroxidase antibody(TPOAb),25-hydroxyvitamin D(25-OHD),carcinoembryonic antigen(CEA)and squamous cell carcinoma antigen(SCC)were significantly lower than those before operation, and the levels of free triiodothyronine(FT3)and free tetraiodothyronine(FT4)were significantly higher than those before operation(P<0.05).Conclusion Total thyroidectomy for patients with thyroid cancer has a higher lesion resection rate and a lower recurrence rate, but it has a greater injury to the recurrent laryngeal nerve and higher postoperative complications. It can be selected according to the specific conditions of patients in clinical application.
