Application of root cause analysis in reducing the incidence of central line associated blood stream infection
Objective To investigate the application of root cause analysis(RCA)in reducing the incidence of central line associated blood stream infection(CLABSI).Methods A total of 986 patients with indwelling CVC admitted in our hospital from January to December 2021 were selected as control group(before RCA activity),and 865 patients with indwelling CVC admitted in our hospital from January to December 2022 were selected as observation group(after RCA activity). The content of RCA activities includes the formation of RCA team, the authorization of superiors, the formulation of activity plans, the investigation of events and the definition of problems, the analysis of proximal causes, the analysis of root causes, and the formulation and implementation of countermeasures. The catheter indwelling time and the incidences of catheter-related thrombosis and CLABSI were compared between the two groups. Results The catheter indwelling time of the observation group was longer than that of the control group, the incidences of catheter-related thrombosis and CLABSI were lower than those of the control group(P<0.05).Conclusion RCA is conducive to the implementation of a variety of nursing preventive measures, prolong the catheter indwelling time of CVC patients, reduce the incidence of CLABSI,and improve the comprehensive nursing effect.
