Correlation analysis between the characteristics of plasma sphingomyelin composition and depressive symptoms in adult female patients with depression
Objective To analyze the correlation between the characteristics of plasma sphingomyelin(SM)composition and depressive symptoms in adult female patients with depression. Methods A total of 28 female patients with depression admitted in our hospital from May 2020 to March 2021 were selected as observation group, and 25 healthy women were recruited as control group during the same period. The Hamilton Depression Scale(HAMD)and Hamilton Anxiety Scale(HAMA)were used to evaluate the severity of depression and anxiety, and the level of SM in plasma was detected by liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry(LC-MS),and the correlation between SM compositional characteristics and depressive symptoms were analyzed. Results The HAMD and HAMA scores of the observation group were higher than those of the control group(P<0.001).The total amount of SM level in the observation group was significantly lower than that in the control group(P=0.018).The levels of SM(t40∶1)+HCOO,SM(d40∶0)+H,SM(d36∶4)+H and SM(d30∶2)+H in the observation group were significantly lower than those in the control group(P<0.05).Spearman correlation analysis showed that SM different molecules were negatively correlated with HAMA and HAMD scores(P<0.05).The results of receiver operating characteristic(ROC)curve showed that the area under the curve(AUC)of SM(d40∶0)+H,SM(t40∶1)+HCOO,SM(d36∶4)+H and SM(d30∶2)+H were 0.903,0.807,0.803 and 0.727,respectively.Conclusion The characteristics of plasma SM composition in patients with depression were negatively correlated with depressive symptoms.SM(d40∶0)+H,SM(t40∶1)+HCOO,SM(d36∶4)+H and SM(d30∶2)+H molecules may be potential biomarkers for the diagnosis of female depression.
