Effect of early screen exposure on children's language development and social ability
Objective To explore the effect of early screen exposure on children's language development and social ability. Methods A total of 160 children aged 1-5 years who underwent physical examination from January 2020 to January 2023 were selected as the research objects. The questionnaires of self-made family situation and screen usage were used to obtain the general data, the language development and social ability were evaluated according to the Gesell developmental diagnostic scale and the Modified Checklist for Autism in Toddlers(M-CHAT).Univariate analysis and multivariate Logistic regression analysis were used to explore the factors affecting children's language development and social ability. Results The parents'education level and the proportion of the earliest contact with the screen age≥12 months in the language development delay group were significantly lower than those in the normal language development group, and the proportion of screen exposure time≥30 min/d and the total time of contact with the screen≥12 months were significantly higher than those in the normal language development group(P<0.05).The parents'education level and the proportion of the earliest contact with the screen age≥12 months in the social ability disorder group were lower than those in the normal social ability group, and the proportion of screen exposure time≥30 min/d and the total time of contact with the screen≥12 months were higher than those in the normal social ability group(P<0.05).Multivariate Logistic regression analysis showed that low education level of parents, the earliest contact with the screen age<12 months, screen exposure time≥30 min/d and the total time of contact with the screen≥12 months were risk factors for children's language development delay and social ability disorder(P<0.05).Conclusion Low educational level of parents, small age of earliest contact with screen, long screen exposure time and long total time of contact with screen are risk factors for children's language development delay and social ability disorder.
