Investigation and analysis on the causes of failure to extract oral residual roots in 336 elderly people
Objective To analyze the causes of failure to extract oral residual roots of elderly people, and to find corresponding methods. Methods A total of 387 elderly patients(80-98 years old)who visited the outpatient of stomatology department in our hospital from January 2018 to June 2021 were selected as the research objects, with a total of 812 diseased residual roots. For those without contraindications, the residual roots were routinely removed, and those who could not be removed were given symptomatic treatment. Results Among the 387 elderly people,51 cases(107 teeth)were given residual roots extraction, accounting for 13.2%;mild complications occurred in 6 cases(11.8%).Three hundred and thirty-six cases(86.8%,705 teeth)failed to extract residual roots due to advanced age and combined medical diseases, the specific causes of medical diseases included hypertension, diabetes, asymptomatic electrocardiogram abnormalities, stable angina pectoris of coronary heart disease, stroke sequelae, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, cardiac insufficiency,long-term use of anticoagulant drugs, etc. Conclusion The reason for the low extraction rate of oral residual roots in elderly people is related to the contraindications based on medical diseases, but there is a phenomenon of excessive evaluation of contraindications. It is necessary to cooperate with the stomatology department and the internal medicine department to properly grasp the contraindications and improve the extraction rate of residual roots in elderly people. The incidence of minor complications after residual roots extraction in elderly people is high.
