Mediating role of intrinsic ability between social support and quality of life in the elderly with type 2 diabetes in the community
Objective To explore the mediating role of intrinsic ability between social support and quality of life in the elderly with type 2 diabetes in the community,and to provide new ideas for improving the quality of life of the elderly.Methods The elderly patients with type 2 diabetes in a community of Zhengzhou city,Henan province were selected as the research objects,the general information questionnaire,Diabetes Specific Quality of Life Scale(DSQL),Perceived Social Support Scale(PSSS)and intrinsic ability assessment tool were used to investigate the mediating role of intrinsic ability between social support and quality of life.Results The quality of life score of 350 elderly patients with type 2 diabetes in the community was(61.53±10.51)points,which was at a medium level;the social support score was(54.50±8.18)points,which was at a medium level;the intrinsic ability score was(2.19±1.14)points,which was at a poor level.Intrinsic ability plays a partial mediating role between social support and quality of life,and its mediating effect accounts for 37.30％of the total effect.Conclusion The quality of life and social support of the elderly with type 2 diabetes in the community are at a medium level,and the level of intrinsic ability is poor.There is a high correlation among quality of life,social support and intrinsic ability,and intrinsic ability plays a mediating role between social support and quality of life.
