Monitoring of Bird and Animal Diversity in Tongdao County,Hunan Province Based on Camera-trapping Technology
[Objective]Our aim is to use camera-trapping technology to understand the resources of bird and animal species in TongDao County and to supplement data on species that are not surveyed by conventional survey methods such as the line transect method.[Method]The monitoring of bird and mammal diversity was carried out from April 2022 to May 2023 in Tongdao County by using infrared camera technology.[Result]A total of 52 infrared cameras were deployed,with camera day of 8600 d.The number of independent effective photographs of mammals and birds are 251 and 160 respectively,and 12 species of mammals belonging to 4 orders and 9 families and 29 species of birds belonging to 6 orders and 16 families are recorded.Among them,Syrmaticus ellioti is class Ⅰ nationally key protected wildlife,and eight species of animals,including the Elaphodus cephalophus,Prionodon pardicolor,Lophura nycthemera,and Strix leptogrammica are class Ⅱ nationally key protected wildlife.The relative abundance of Melogale moschata(RAI=7.326)is the highest among the veterinary species,and the relative abundance of Chrysolophuspictus(RAI=3.256)is the highest among the avian species.[Conclusion]This survey provides an understanding of the current resources of bird and animal diversity in TongDao County and provides important materials for wildlife protection work and resource management in the county.
