Second language(L2)reading not only enhances learners'cognitive abilities but also expands their knowledge base,contributing to the development of creative thinking.To further explore the relationship between L2 reading and creative think-ing,this study assessed L2 reading proficiency,divergent thinking,and convergent thinking among college students at regional uni-versities in central China.The results revealed no significant correlation between L2 reading proficiency and divergent thinking but indicated a positive correlation with convergent thinking.Based on these findings,future L2 reading instruction in regional universi-ties should undergo reforms by adopting student-centered approaches,promoting extensive reading,and implementing diverse evalua-tion methods,creating a learning environment conducive to the development of divergent thinking while continuing to foster conver-gent thinking.
