Dancing with the Wolf:Interpretation on the Essence of the Wolf Culture Consciousness in Shuowenjiezi
Since the 20th century,wolf culture began to rise in the Chinese literary world,especially Wolf Totem has the greatest impact.As a dictionary of the faithful record of Chinese civilization,Shuowenjiezi reflects the cognitive process of Chinese ancestors on wolves.From the theoretical perspective of Chinese character culturology,this paper takes exegeses of Chinese characters related to wolves in Shuowenjiezi as the study object and systematically dissects cultural consciousness of the wolf in ancient China from three dimensions of animism,iron-blooded spirit and ecological civilization.Wolves are selected as the spirit animal,the blood ancestor and the clan totem because their bravery,persistence and gregarious habits are similar to human perservance,unity and collectivism.What's more,wolves'spirit is sublimated into daring to show the sword,self-improvement will to fight and iron-blooded spirit.These concepts about animals such as"Tigers and wolves are benevolent by nature.""Wolves do not harm its relatives."are interpreted as the incisive judgment of classical philosophy of"Everything is the same.",and provides universal values and classic cases for building a community with a shared future for mankind today.The evolution of wolf culture in Shuowenjiezi is a national secret history and inspirational legend for descendants of Yan and Huang to continue the ancestral aspirations,work hard and never give up.
