The paper gives a comprehensive overview of communication,and then based on the problems exis-ting in the translation of folk literature as intangible cultural heritage in Liaoning province,it analyzes its trans-lation principles and strategies from the perspective of communication.It is found that in accordance with the principle of cultural exchange and communication,amplification is adopted to translate the historical back-ground of the story and proper nouns,which can not only retain the cultural characteristics,but also take into account the acceptance ability of the target language audience,and that in accordance with target language audi-ence-oriented principle,the free translation method is used to translate the local and colloquial vocabulary to enhance the acceptability of the translation.It is also found that in accordance with target language audience-ori-ented principle,the adaptation method is used to translate the scattered Chinese sentences into compact Eng-lish sentences,which meets the expectations of the target language audience.The results show that communica-tion theory is of great significance to guide the translation of folk literature as intangible cultural heritage in Liaoning province.
