Microstructure and Mechanical Properties of Rapidly Solidified Al-4Cu-xLi-X Alloy
Al-4Cu-xLi-X(x=1,2 and 3)alloys were prepared by rapid solidification/powder metallurgy. The evolution of micro-structure and its effect on mechanical properties during the preparation of alloys were studied. The results show that the Li content has no significant effect on the size distribution, surface morphology, microstructure and phase composition of the alloy powder. The dense bulk alloy was obtained after hot isostatic pressing. With the increase of Li content, the amount of the second phase increases and gradually forms a network structure. The tensile strength of the alloy increases with the increase of Li content, but the elongation de-creases significantly. After hot extrusion, the boundary of the original powder in the alloy is fully broken, the second phase distributes along the extrusion direction, and the strength and elongation of the alloy increase simultaneously.
