Effect of Ageing Treatment on Mechanical Properties and Intergranular Corrosion Property of 6056 Aluminium Alloy
The effects of different aging treatment on the mechanical properties and intergranular corrosion property of 6056 alloy were investigated by tensile test, intergranular corrosion test and metallographic observation. The results show that at T6 peak ageing(165℃×10 h),the tensile strength and yield strength are 438 MPa and 380 MPa respectively, and the elongation is 16.5%,but the in-tergranular corrosion is serious with a corrosion depth of about 170 μm.After two-step ageing based on T6 peak aging, the alloy strength gradually decreases and the corrosion depth becomes significantly smaller. For 6056 aluminium alloy, the best two-stage age-ing process is 165℃×10 h+220℃×5 h.At this ageing system, the tensile strength is 405 MPa,the yield strength is 375 MPa,the elon-gation is 11.3%,and the corrosion is slight pitting.Higher mechanical properties and good intergranular corrosion property can be ob-tained by 140℃×6 h+180℃×5 h+140℃×4 h three-stage ageing process. At this ageing system, the tensile strength is 455 MPa,the yield strength is 425 MPa,the elongation is 12.0%,and the intergranular corrosion depth is about 12 μm.
