Study on the Dimension Characteristics of Collapse Rocks in Nearly Horizontal Red Beds over the Sichuan Basin
The nearly horizontal red beds are widely distributed in the form of sand-mudstone interbeds in the Sichuan Basin, which is prone to collapse under tectonic and weathering forces.Four research areas were selected based on the principle of decentralized layout in the red beds'distribution area to measure the sandstone layers'thickness, joint spacing and dip angle.Furthermore, the dimension characteristics on the three-dimensional scale of the collapse rocks in the area were investigated. The corresponding relationship was studied between the surveyed parameters with joint spacing and layer thickness. The analysis revealed that a significant positive correlation approximately meets the ratio of 1∶1 between the thickness and the developed joint spacing of the low-dip sandstone layers.Combined with the deduction that joint spacing is the main control factor of collapse rocks'dimension, the calculation method of the collapse rock volume by layer thickness was obtained. The judgmet basis of rock fall hazard prediction of near-horizontal red layer is put forward.
