Study on Laterite Engineering Characteristics and Road Performance of Jingang Expressway
A series of engineering characteristic tests and road performance tests were conducted on soil samples taken along the Jingang Expressway in Cambodia to analyze the basic physical and mechanical properties of typical laterite, including the water content, gradation, density, liquid plastic limit, and bearing ratio(CBR)of the soil samples. The results indicate a significant difference between the natural moisture content of laterite and its optimal moisture content,as well as poor grading due to the presence of fine particles. To use this soil for subgrade filling,it is essential to improve grading and adjust the moisture content on-site,while also implementing waterproof and drainage measures to ensure optimal subgrade humidity. Therefore,it is recommended to fill in sections according to soil sample types due to significant differences in laterite and different compaction characteristics of different soil samples, and the different acceptance creteria are applied to each paragraph. The CBR value of laterite significantly increases with the increase in compactness and decreases significantly with the increase in plasticity index and small particle passing rate, especially the 0.075 mm sieve passing rate.In actual subgrade engineering,it is crucial to exercise caution when using laterite with large plasticity index and high fine particle content.
