New Development of Metaphysics:Guo Xiang's Innovation in Translation and Interpretation of Zhuangzi
There is a typical Chinese academic tradition of reinterpreting classics to form a new ideology and dominate academic thought. The theory of Chi-nese Translation and Interpretation Studies extracts three elements in translation and interpretation activities:individuals(the interpreter),circumstances(the back-ground of interpretation),and objects(the text being interpreted)for analysis, combining translation studies with translator studies.By Re-examining Guo Xiang's translation and interpretation of Zhuangzi within this research paradigm, new questions and clues emerge, such as why Guo Xiang chose Zhuangzi and how he translated it,as well as the role it played in the develop-ment of metaphysics during the Yuankang period, highlighting the close relation-ship between academic thoughts and political changes in that period.
