An Analysis of Xunzi's Political Thought——An Examination based on"the Theory of XingPu,Yu'E,and XinLv"
The theory of human nature serves as is the foundation of xunzi's political thought,and"the theory of XingPu,Yu'E,and XinLv"should be in-cluded in xunzi's theory of human nature.In the natural state,people suf-fer from the consequences of"mutual destruction"due to their inclination to-wards evil desires;however,saints lead individuals towards an orderly social state by"hating their chaos",thus establishing the foundation of the political legitimacy of saints.The two outlines of xunzi's political ideology are the em-phasis on Li and Fa,and the encouragement of learning to achieve good-ness.People are born with desires,so saints ensure the stable operation of social order through the method of LongLi and ZhongFa;Xing is Pu rather than evil,and the heart has the ability to reflection and learning.Therefore,sages hope that people can enhance their moral literacy through education.One of the major theoretical characteristics of xunzi's political thought is to attach importance to the external constraints of Li and Fa,while also empha-sizing the self-improvement of personality.
