The Jin Dynasty is the formation period of the concept of Tang and Song poetry.Wang Ruoxu is one of the key figures in the transformation of Jin Dynasty poetics from taking poetics of the Song Dynasty as the model to taking that of the Tang Dynasty as the model.The Guochao Literary School sought the independence of Jin poet-ry,and further broke the bad habits of the poetry circle after the Jin court southward migrating cross the Yellow River.Wang Ruoxu,based on the century-old practice in the poetic circle of the Jin Dynasty poetry,affirmed the poetic style of the Song Dynasty and fiercely criticized the Jiangxi poetry school in order to break the new poetic style of the Jin Dynasty after the migration.Meanwhile,he transcended the poetic tradition of the Northern Song Dynasty,advocated that of the Tang Dynasty,stripped the teacher-student relationship between Huang Tingjian and Du Fu,and showed a strong preference for Bai Juyi's poems that were depreciated by the Song people.Both the complex attitude toward the Song poetry and the conscious advocation of taking the poetry of the Tang and the model and suppressing that of the Song Dynasty show Wang Ruoxu's transcendence consciousness of the urgent need to break the bad style of Jin poetry.
