Survey on Current Awareness of Osteoporosis Knowledge and Health Education Needs among Some Community Residents in Guangzhou City
Objective:To investigate the current level of awareness of osteoporosis knowledge and the demand for health education among residents in some communities in Guangzhou City.Methods:From Mar to May 2024,a field questionnaire survey on osteoporosis knowledge was conducted among residents aged 18 and above from five communities in Guangzhou City using a simple random sampling method.Results:The overall awareness rate of osteoporosis knowl-edge among Guangzhou residents was 27.95%.The awareness rates varied significantly among different age groups,edu-cation levels,marital status,and occupational types(P<0.05).Regarding specific osteoporosis knowledge,the aware-ness rates of"low back pain was a symptom of osteoporosis","exercise can prevent osteoporosis"and"exposure to sun-light can prevent osteoporosis"were all above 60%,while the awareness rates of"long-term use of hormonal drugs was a risk factor for osteoporosis"and"the harms of osteoporosis include reduced respiratory function"were both below 20%.The primary sources of information on osteoporosis for community residents were television and the internet(48.91%)and healthcare professionals(46.72%).79.91%of residents expressed a preference for face-to-face communication with healthcare professionals for health education.Conclusion:The overall awareness rate of osteoporosis knowledge among some community residents in Guangzhou is relatively low,and there is a notable deficiency in their understanding of the risk factors and hazards of osteoporosis.Targeted health education programs should be implemented for key populations to enhance their knowledge of osteoporosis.
