Correlation Analysis of Quadriceps Thickness and the Outcome of First Initial Weaning from Mechanical Ventilation in Patients
Objective:The aim of this study was to investigate the correlation between quadriceps thickness(QMT)and the outcome of first withdrawal in patients with mechanical ventilation. Methods:A total of 166 critically ill patients with mechanical ventilation admitted to the Intensive Care Unit(ICU)of the First Affiliated Hospital of Soochow University from June 2023 to June 2024 were collected.According to the outcome of the first weaning, the patients were divided into a success group(n=122)and a failure group(n=44).QMT and its changes were compared between the two groups, and the correlation between QMT change rate and rapid shallow breathing index(RSBI)was analyzed. To ex-plore the relationship between the outcome of the first withdrawal machine and the change of quadriceps thickness.Re-sults:Compared with the successful weaning group, the QMT variation rate was significantly higher in the failed wean-ing group(P<0.05).The rate of QMT change was correlated with RSBI,with a significant positive correlation(r=0.651,P<0.05).Conclusion:The QMT variation rate may serve as a predictor for the outcome of the first weaning at-tempt in mechanically ventilated patients and holds potential predictive value for weaning failure.
