The effect of childhood emotional abuse in self-injury in adolescents——The roles of shame and trait mindfulness
This study explored the relationship between childhood emotional abuse and self-injury,and the roles of shame and trait mindfulness in the relationship.A sample of 1 113 adolescents completed a ques-tionnaire survey.The results showed that:(1)Childhood emotional abuse significantly predicted adoles-cents'self-injury.(2)Shame played a partial mediating role between childhood emotional abuse and self-injury.(3)Trait mindfulness moderated the direct relationship and the second half of the relationship be-tween childhood emotional abuse and self-injury.At low trait mindfulness level,childhood emotional abuse was more significant in predicting self-injury and shame was more significant in predicting self-injury.
