The strategic adjustment of higher education structure is necessary to meet the needs of economic and social development.On the basis of theoretical analysis of the coupling mechanism between higher edu-cation structure and economic development,this paper constructs the index system of higher education structure and economic development,using entropy method to determine the weights of each indicator and analyzing the coupling relationship between China's higher education structure and economic development from 2005 to 2021 using the coupling coordination Model.It was found that the comprehensive index of higher education structure showed an increasing trend during the research period,and gradually integrated with economic development with a deepening mutual influence.The coupling and coordination degree be-tween the hierarchical structure and layout structure of higher education and economic development is higher than that between the disciplinary structure and scale structure and economic development.The structure of higher education should be continuously adjusted to meet the needs of high-quality economic development,industrial upgrading,regional development and national strategic adjustment.
